Each August, Capital Area Healthy Start Coalition celebrates and recognizes World Breastfeeding Week – a global campaign aiming to inform, anchor, engage and galvanize action on breastfeeding and related issues.
Breastfeeding is a sustainable solution that is good for the planet and its people. Coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), World Breastfeeding Week functions to not only celebrate the joys of breastfeeding and motherhood but to highlight the links between breastfeeding and planetary health. This year, WABA provides four main objectives for the awareness week.
INFORM people about the links between breastfeeding and the environment/climate change
ENGAGE with individuals and organizations for greater impact
ANCHOR breastfeeding as a climate-smart decision
GALVANIZE action on improving the health of the planet and people through breastfeeding
Throughout World Breastfeeding Week, Capital Area Healthy Start encourages engagement among individuals, organizations, and providers to promote healthy discussions about the benefits of breastfeeding.
By using WBW hashtags, posting resources to social media, and simply sharing information about breastfeeding, we hope to assist WABA in improving infant and planetary health and increasing the overall understanding of breastfeeding and its benefits.
We invite everyone to join the Coalition this week and the rest of the month to celebrate breastfeeding awareness. Follow this link to learn more about WABA and the link between breastfeeding and environmental health: https://worldbreastfeedingweek.org/.
