Infant mortality is a pressing issue that affects not only our country’s health but its well-being. During September, Capital Area Healthy Start Coalition recognizes Infant Mortality Awareness Month, promoting awareness of the high infant mortality rate in our nation. To reduce this rate, we start by servicing our local community in Leon and Wakulla County.
Grieving the loss of a child is an experience no parent should have to bear. No matter how much time has passed or how recent your loss was, we understand that grieving parents need a way to cope. Healthy Start aims to connect those dealing with loss while administering comfort and care during this time. Throughout the year, we actively provide support through local programs and hold events in which local families who have experienced loss get the opportunity to share their stories, including our upcoming Walk to Remember. United as a community, we can come together to understand these tragedies better.
Healthy Start’s goal is to help guide women on their path to a healthy pregnancy, continuing the journey into a healthy child and family care. Year-round, we provide in-home services and support for Leon and Wakulla County families, actively striving to reduce the infant mortality rate. By enrolling in Healthy Start, you begin the path to a healthier lifestyle for you and your baby.
Upon your first prenatal visit, we encourage women to say yes to the prenatal risk screen. This screening allows your healthcare provider to be aware of any possible risks that could affect you or your baby. Following this, the choice is yours to enroll in Healthy Start. Our program provides education and support to foster a healthy lifestyle during and after your pregnancy at no cost. Through our Connect program, you will be referred to local programs that are ensured to serve your needs best. After enrolling, you will then be assigned a care coordinator who will tailor our services to keep you on your path to a healthy start.
By starting your journey through parenthood with Healthy Start, you’re on your way to a healthy, full-term pregnancy and birth. Keep in mind that you can enroll at any point during your pregnancy, as well as during your child’s early life. We want to provide local families with the best start to parenthood by improving birth rates and ensuring a healthy life.
